In the business world, change is inevitable. And in today’s constantly-evolving technological landscape, that can mean employees need to be ready to roll with all sorts of changes – big and small. Here are four tips on how to lead your team through any tech changes that come their way.
1) Stay communicative. When new updates or changes occur within your company’s technological infrastructure, it’s crucial to keep your employees in the loop. Don’t let them feel left out or uninformed; instead, keep them up-to-date on what’s happening and why it matters. This will help them feel like they’re part of a larger whole, and that their work is valuable and important.
2) Be patient. Change doesn’t happen overnight, and neither do most people’s adjustment times to new technologies. Give your employees room to explore the new systems and tools you’ve put into place, and don’t expect them to be perfect at using everything from day one. Letting them take things slow will help prevent frustration on everyone’s part – yours included!
3) Encourage questioning. In an age where anyone can Google the answer to any question they have (even during a meeting), it can be tempting for employees to just sit back and not say anything lest they look uninformed or dumbfounded. But questions are a key part of learning, so encourage staffers to ask whatever’s on their mind when it comes to using new technology in the workplace. It’ll create a more open environment where information sharing is encouraged – ultimately making everyone more productive overall.
4) Offer training & support.” Not all employees are born ‘tech geniuses’; in fact, many of us need a little guidance when it comes to adjusting to new platforms and programs. Offering training sessions (and even ongoing support once those sessions are over) shows that you’re invested in helping your team members succeed with these changes – no matter how challenging they might seem initially.”
